National Goals and How We Can Help Achieve Them
We want to tell you about the upcoming very exciting No Kings: Vote Early day of non-partisan ACTION happening on October 17th. We need your involvement to make this a true success. Democracy depends on participation! Our goal is to protect democracy and our constitutional rights. Indivisible’s strategy is to initiate an Election Season, not just an Election Day!
We’ve sent a message with massive numbers of protesters to say Hands Off and No Kings. Now we’re turning our protest power into voting power. Voting IS a form of protest! Millions will be driving this historic voter turnout with joyful and diverse actions across the country.
The No Kings: Vote Early mobilization is about making sure every eligible voter has a plan to vote early, knows their options and is ready to make their vote count. Voting early lets us make our voices heard on our own terms, before Election Day, before the last minute chaos and before anyone else can decide what happens next. It is crucial to protect our elections and our right to vote.
Oct 17th is the on ramp. It will be a day of non-partisan action. This is a special No Kings because it’s about moving values to action. "Power to the people, power in numbers”—these aren’t just slogans—it’s really true!
We want to emphasize this is a non-partisan ACTION. It’s up to all of us, THE VOTERS, to make sure that the people’s will is reflected in our government.
The Plans for October 17th
From 11am to 1pm our Indivisibles will show up at Babcock Park with tons of Vote Early Signs. Envision a sea of Go Vote!! signs. Not protest signs, but VOTE EARLY signs—so many signs that the passersby can’t miss it and the filmmakers will be able to rock out because it will be so theatrical and noticeable.
Another strategy is The Chalk Brigade! We’ll have chalk as “party favors” at the Babcock Park action so you can mark "Vote Early" on the sidewalks of your neighborhoods!
In The Meantime...
Let’s start educating anyone who says, “it’s useless to vote” or “why should I even vote?” The pollsters are telling us to choose to focus on these two items when we talk with folks: affordability and corruption. And we have to have the courage to talk with family, friends and neighbors to encourage them to show up and vote.
Hungary did it—they showed up in large numbers and ousted the corrupt authoritarian regime.
Our lawyers, election protection volunteers and election defenders are ready and have been working on this for years. Norm Eisen and Joyce Vance, well-known legal strategists, say it’s not just one thing that will turn things around. It’s a combination! That’s how we will succeed—rapid responders, the lawyers, the protesters, the vigilers, the musicians, the elections groups, poll workers, local groups, the post card and letter writers, the canvassers, the phone bankers, the funders, the social network outreach and organizers. Our grassroots energy powers and reinforces the legal efforts of litigators who say that we Indivisibles, and groups like ours, "put the wind in the sails of the lawyers when they see us out there in huge numbers."
As they say, this is not a sprint—it’s a relay race. So let’s avoid in-fighting. Let’s use compassion, non-violence and joy along with the hard work. Let’s show up so we can say to our families, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren when they ask us “what did you do to try to save democracy”—we were there for you.
